WWJ Newsradio 950 in Detroit is looking for a part-time producer and editor to join our award-winning newsroom. This job is fast-paced and includes putting together newscasts on Saturday and Sunday mornings and helping in the newsroom Monday-Friday. The ideal candidate is a news junkie, knows Detroit and Michigan, is organized, can find news stories and excels with breaking news.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do:

Edit and produce newscasts (including but not limited to selecting, editing and/or writing news content)Manage the flow of news and informationEdit audio for broadcast and digital assetsCollaborate with colleagues about news coverage (i.e. propose and contribute to daily and long-term coverage plans)Research and coordinate compelling live and pre-recorded interviewsFollow-up and call on news tips and breaking stories, conduct interviews with officials and newsmakersPromote news coverage on social mediaProtect the station’s FCC licenseOther duties as required by managementThis job involves working early mornings on Saturday and Sunday. Required to join SAG-AFTRA Qualifications

Experience in a newsroom settingAbility to interpret and simplify complex information, copyAbility to update copy and ad-lib in a moments noticeWrite conversational, engaging news storiesKnowledgeable and up-to-date with local and national trends and/or specializedknowledge of subjects/events related to on-air topics/storiesExcellent writing and editing skillsAbility to plan, organize and multi task in a fast-paced environmentExperience and proficiency interviewing newsmakersKnowledge of proper grammar and usageStrong attention to detailAbility to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environmentProficient in media production and broadcast systemsAbility to work flexible and irregular hours including holidaysProtect the station’s FCC license Important Notes:
