Role Summary Leads process development, production start-up, production support and the implementation of engineering changes and process improvements.  Analyzes customer supplied weld drawings.  Provides input and direction in the development of welding processes to ensure compliance.   Evaluates weld destruct data to identify areas of improvement in the welding process. Key Responsibilities Defines the manufacturing process required to produce assembled weldments. Documents the process, control plans, reaction plans, PFMEA, and updates as required for CD and laser welding of components. Defines the gauging methods to be utilized in high volume manufacturing of CD and laser weldments. Designs the testing plan for validating weld integrity. Support purchasing, supplier quality, and manufacturing during ongoing production of new products and other critical periods. Confers with management, engineering, maintenance and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to support a 3-shift automated facility producing automotive weldments. Develops specifications and procures welding equipment, tooling, gages and test equipment. Sets up the equipment and trains the validation team. Defines investment plans for future product designs, estimates manpower, and plans capacities for future and current manufactured components. Understands and applies statistical methods relative to determining the capability of machinery and processes. Utilizes problem solving techniques (8 step, design of experiments, mistake proofing) Initiates, recommends or provides solutions through designated channels. Creates welding process programs edits and improves as required. Assists plant layout in the placement of machinery and participates in material handling strategies. Provides support to training activities for shop floor personnel including operators, inspectors and technicians. Key Qualifications/Requirements Associates or University Degree in Engineering discipline, or equivalent Processing and/or welding experience required. Experience with laser and CD welding in high volume manufacturing, considered a strong asset Has a working knowledge of automation used in manufacturing, i.e., robotics, conveyors, pick and place devices, etc. Excellent oral and written skills. Capable of interfacing with corporate staff, vendors, customers, and employees. Experience with plant start ups and major product launches, considered an asset. Additional Information Awareness.
