We are seeking a Weld Engineer to investigate and document welding defects, evaluate and implement new welding technology, and develop welding procedures for new equipment. This role involves preparing technical reports, establishing welding procedures, and working with minimal supervision. The Weld Engineer will handle complex issues, provide leadership, and mentor other team members.
ResponsibilitiesInvestigate and document welding defects to determine appropriate cause and corrective measures.Evaluate and implement new welding technology.Develop welding procedures for new equipment.Prepare technical reports from research and preventive maintenance investigations.Establish welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel.Handle complex issues and problems, referring only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to others.Essential SkillsExpertise in welding processes, including TIG, laser, and a smaller amount of plasma.Knowledge of welding failure modes and diagnostic methods.Experience with PFMEA and recommendations for process improvements.Familiarity with alloys such as stainless steel and nickel.Ability to identify areas of improvement and standardize practices across production lines.Experience with lean six sigma or continuous improvement methodologies.Strong communication skills to interact with operators and shop floor personnel.Experience with weld calculations such as heat input and travel speed.Additional Skills & QualificationsBachelor's degree.At least five years of experience in engineering or a manufacturing environment.Technical qualification in welding or mechanical engineering.Experience with automatic equipment.Ability to challenge organizational practices and drive improvements.High organizational and problem-solving skills.Ability to work in a busy and complex environment while staying calm under pressure.Outgoing personality to interact with internal and external customers at all levels.Self-motivation and commitment to company objectives and targets.Good communication skills.Work Environment
This role involves a mix of time spent on the production floor and in the office, responsible for 20 weld lines, each with different criteria and acceptance standards. The team currently lacks a dedicated weld engineer but includes mechanical and manufacturing engineers, quality technicians, and operators. The Weld Engineer will closely interact with these team members and leverage a quality lab for testing.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.87 - $50.48/hr.
