Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it. **Job Description:** As a 1st shift Weld Technologist in the Fabrication Group at Caterpillar, you will determine the manufacturing processes, tooling and tool design, and equipment needed to successfully and economically produce assigned parts in accordance with engineering specifications. You will oversee manufacturing process for welded structures by using appropriate technologies, tools and equipment. **Responsibilities/Job Duties** + Examining and resolving defects in work pieces using various technologies, tools and equipment. + Adhering to quality assurance policies and procedures to ensure that work pieces are fabricated according to instructions. + Designing and/or maintaining a manufacturing process to weld metal parts together in required configurations. + Utilizing expertise of various manual or automatic welding systems to safely and accurately fabricate a quality metal structure. **Top Candidates:** + Programming experience with ABB, Fanuc, and Kawasaki + Offline programming experience + A strong understanding / working knowledge of Microsoft O/S and related applications + CWI certificate **What Skills You Will Have:** **Quality Management:** • Utilizes quality indicators relevant to own unit or function. • Adheres to organizational quality management processes and practices. • Applies key aspects of continuous improvement processes and evaluates impact on quality. • Uses quality evaluation tools and techniques such as walkthroughs and inspections. • Works with quality assurance methods, tools and techniques. **Metal Fabrication:** • Designs metal structures to fit specific fabrication and installation requirements. • Guides and monitors health and safety related practices during metal fabrication processes. • Supervises metal fabrication processes and ensures work procedures are followed correctly. • Analyzes metal fabrication costs and the feasibility and stability of metal structure designs. **Manufacturing Safety:** • Consults on the use of new tools and techniques for safety protection. • Performs safety inspections to assure compliance with OSHA requirements. • Promotes workplace safety among supervisors and workers; communicates safety rules and regulations. • Assesses and reports unusual or new safety hazards or violations; initiates corrective action. • Ensures that all employees and contractors comply with relevant safety policies and regulations. **Production Systems Operation:** • Works with advanced features and functions of a complex production system. • Evaluates problems in production systems and determines necessary solutions/improvements. • Participates in implementing equipment and system changes that impact production. • Monitors various production systems; ensures they function within standard policies and procedures. • Participates in resolving complex system problems; consults on manual overrides. **Welding - MFG:** • Mentors others in evaluating, selecting and testing welding materials, tools and equipment. • Constructs a monitoring system to ensure adherence to welding quality standards. • Leads periodic reviews of existing welding processes, procedures and techniques. • Promotes advanced welding methods and technology and makes recommendations to use within the organization. • Predicts the development of new methodologies and technologies for welding. **Additional Information:** The primary location for this position is East Peoria, IL (LL) Domestic relocation assistance is available Travel will be up to 5% Sponsorship is not available **Summary Pay Range:** $95,640.00 - $143,520.00 Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience.
