Responsibilities A WG-3703-10, WELDER: Performs welding duties using electric, acetylene, and/or inert gas shielded welding processes,pre-heating, brazing, head welding, tack welding, flame cutting, pressure welding, and heattreating. Uses templates, jigs, blueprints, and other guides to repair, modify, or fabricate metal itemsincluding repair of light or intricately made mechanical parts, which must fit in assemblies whereclose tolerances are required. Makes numerous types of joints using flat, vertical, horizontal, andoverhead positions on light and heavy equipment such as axles, frames, gun mounts andcomponents, carriers, tanks, metal decks constructed of a variety of weldable metals. Welds orreinforces heavy armor plate. Performs precision welding on jigs, dies, engineering and automotive equipment. Brazes dissimilar metals; flame cuts metal to size for fabrication, using regular weldingequipment. Utilizes basic sheet metal tools and equipment such as a bender, press, roller, shear,and band saw to repair and/or fabricate a variety of equipment air conditioning and heater ductunits, storage cabinets, and components for armored personnel carriers. Reads and interprets blueprints and sketches. Lays out, positions, and clamps work; selectstype of rod and size of tip to accomplish weld. Determines heat necessary; adjusts equipmentaccordingly. Manually maintains proper speed, flame motion, tip and angle, and position of thewelding flame to produce desired pattern. Other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Military Grades: E1-E7 Compatible Military Assignments: 13/14/15/17/25/35/91/94 - Applicants need not be assigned to the position or possess the MOS to apply or be considered for selection. Selected applicant must be assigned to a compatible Military position and attain MOS within 1 year of appointment action. - Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. - All soldiers, civilian employees, and contractor employees who drive Army-owned or leased vehicles must complete the Army Avoidance Course (AAC) training when they start working for the Army. Must have a valid Washington state and military driver's license. Must be able to obtain a Government Travel Card (GTC) and be able to attend all schools deemed necessary by the supervisor. - Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. - Must maintain membership in the WA Army National Guard for continued employment. - Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position. - This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. - Position requires ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission. - May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required. - The duties and responsibilities of your job may significantly impact the environment. You are responsible to maintain awareness of your environmental responsibilities as dictated by legal and regulatory requirements, your organization, and its changing mission. Qualifications GENERAL EXPERIENCE: - Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the basic knowledge of welding processes. Must have knowledge of technical orders, blueprints, and specifications. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 18 months experience or training demonstrating the application of a variety of electric resistance welding processes and equipment. Experience in using accepted trade methods and a variety of manual welding processes to weld all types of commonly used metals in various shapes, sizes and thicknesses. Experience using a wider range of metal welding processes to make more difficult welds meeting close tolerance, strength and other requirements. These welds may be in hard to reach places. Experience which allows the welder to devise special jigs and fixtures to hold the parts to be welded. Experience which demonstrates knowledge of several related trade procedures. Experience which enables the lay out and planning of work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications and work orders. Education Education Requirements: High School Diploma or GED. Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: Not Applicable. To receive credit for Education, you must provide transcripts or other documentation of proof to support your Educational claims.
