TIG Welder

JOB PURPOSE:
setup and operate TIG/welding equipment; weld cold rolled steel and aluminum.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Pass certification test on proper setup and operation of all welding equipment
Correctly punch in and out on all job assignments
Utilize hand TIG welder to consistently produce quality seam and tack welds
Working from ordinary blueprints, layouts, sketches, templates and/or instructions, operate hand TIG welder to produce high quality lightweight to heavyweight weld assemblies
Set tools, gauges and stops and align work for close tolerance
Check work using simple scales, calipers and/or other measuring tools to maintain quality
Assist in maintaining tools, fixtures, jigs and equipment in a cost-effective manner
Assist in down- or upstream operation to maintain a consistent workflow throughout the process of each job
Accurately complete move ticket transactions and scrap tickets; stock and move loaded pallets to designated areas
Perform other duties as assigned
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Follow safety rules, safe operating procedures and practices; help ensure all employees follow safety rules, procedures and practices
Maintain good housekeeping conditions in work areas
Active participation in on-going individual training/development program(s)
Engage in training of employees and cross-training, perform backup functions to other department members as instructed
Set goals and objectives with Supervisor; look for ways to improve quality and productivity
Report abnormalities in machines, programs, materials, quality and/or processes
REQUIREMENTS:
Advanced Welding certification or degree from accredited school is strongly preferred
2+ years sheet metal TIG welding experience with specific knowledge of heat settings, speeds and other control factors relative to effective TIG applications
Experience working with sheet metal, mild steel/stainless steel/aluminum
Dimensional measuring and simple math competence with excellent dexterity and deftness skills
Prior experience using calipers, micrometers and other measuring tools
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and Lay out work as required
Maintain excellent attendance record
Ability to work within a team environment and possess a positive, "can do" attitude
EQUIPMENT USED:
Various hand tools, hand truck, scale, caliper, square and protractor
Various TIG welding machines
Qualifications:
Advanced welding certification or degree preferred.
Previous experience with TIG welding, especially with cold rolled steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
Knowledge of welding techniques, heat settings, and speeds.
Ability to read and understand blueprints.
Strong communication skills.
Flexible to work overtime and adjust schedules as needed.
Team-oriented and able to work collaboratively.
Compensation & Schedule:
Pay rate: $19-$26/hour ($1 more for 2nd shift)
Shift: 2nd shift, 3:30 PM - 12:00 AM, plus overtime and Saturdays as needed.
