Welders are responsible for the build up and joining of material (similar & dissimilar) using filler metals and hard facing compounds on internal/external valve components (new parts and repair), preparing parts for final machining and performing final welding applications while working in shop environment, with some field service as needed.
In this Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
Examines shop order to determine part, material, operation and quantities. Checks parts against print and shop orders for dimensions and weld size to be applied. Selects and adjusts current, polarity, voltage, filler material, shielding gas, etc., in accordance with welding procedure specification (WPS). Read, interpret and follow weld procedure specifications (WPS) and procedure qualification records (PQR). Interprets drawing welding symbols, sets up, tacks and welds parts together according to procedure specified. Ensures parts are free from paint, varnish, scale rust, etc., in area to be welded. Grinds and cleans parts as necessary. Uses oxyacetylene/MAPP torch to preheat and maintain preheat as required by welding procedure specified. Measures inter-pass temperature when required by the weld procedure specification using a contact pyrometer. Positions parts to be welded using the overhead crane, table and/or welding positioner. Responsible for personal safety and those around them. Must maintain excellent housekeeping standards. Participates in field work when required, with occasional overnight stays Participation and involvement in Safety, Quality, and Activities Committees.For This Role, You Will Need:
High School diploma or equivalent and 2+ years of previous industry related experience Experience in welding to support post-weld machining activities Proven ability to prioritize competing demands and meet deadlines efficiently in fast paced environments. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skillsPreferred Qualifications that Set You Apart:
Mechanical related Associates degree or equivalent experience a plus Understanding or work experience with Fisher and Final Control product preferred. Experience with hard-facing and overlay welding for valve components. PTAW welding experience preferred Proven track record to quickly learn proprietary systems Strong communication skills both oral and writtenCertification:
Welders must be weld certified within thirty days for the following weld processes. If a welder is already in place and no known qualification records exist, the associate will be required to become weld certified for the following weld processes. Weld test coupons will be sent for qualification to a testing facility on the Qualified Suppliers List. The following welds will provide fundamental weld qualification coverage for the work that is performed at a site level.
Weld testing for welder qualification shall include, but not be limited to, non-destructive examination (NDE) activities such as VT, PT. Destructive weld testing for the purpose of welder qualification shall include, but not be limited to, side bend and tensile tests.
GTAW/SMAW Carbon Steel (P1)-1G Position; 1” plate GTAW/SMAW Stainless Steel (P8)-1G Position: 1” plate GTAW Stellite/Alloy 6 hard face: 2 inch bar PTAW Stellite/Alloy 6 Hard Face: 3 inch barWelders must maintain welders log to ASME Section IX for each production weld preformed. Welders will be required to complete and pass multiple training courses/certifications during their tenure!
