Responsible for the entire sequence of cutting and welding operations for a wide variety of repair and fabrication work. Aligns and welds components of metal tools, wires, fixtures and other metal products. May utilize different types of welding systems for different tasks. Maintains a safe work area and may train apprentices in the trade.
PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF FUNCTION
This position performs welding cowbells, mating pipes, manifold flanges, U-HAUL mufflers, and large multi-can “Y-pipes.” Also performs plasma cutting and out of position welding.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Welds cow bells, mating pipes, manifold flanges, mufflers, and large multi-can “Y-pipes.” Also performs plasma cutting and out of position welding. Understands the set-up of all level 1, 2 and 3 units. Clock in and out of jobs, as necessary. Safely operate equipment and machinery. Ensures that welding equipment is in good and safe working order. Meets or exceeds set production targets where applicable. Performs and records rework where applicable. Report existing or potential machine problems to the Lead, Supervisor or Manager. Keep area, machines, tools, and equipment clean, organized, and clear of debris. Ensure that job set ups are properly set up and all components fit before beginning welding. Ensure that machine safety protocols are all functional. Must use correct PPE and dress safely for the job.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Must demonstrate strong aptitude for welding fast and accurately. Possess requisite math, writing, reading and communication skills. Must demonstrate proper use of data sheets after training. Data entry skills are a plus. Ability to manufacture good quality product at the set rate of output. Able to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to maintain production rates to department standards. Ability to correctly set up and run the product in the correct order and with the required quality. Ability to correctly follow and give instructions. Must be able to communicate well with others and have good organization skills. Ability to work consistently without constant supervision. Steel-toed shoes required; no sleeveless shirts allowed. Hours as assigned with the probability of overtime during the week and on Saturday.
