Essential Functions:

Use shop mathematics; adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides decimals, fractions and calculates angles.Read drawings, blueprints, specifications, and a variety of measuring instruments including tape measure, level and protractorFit a variety of parts to Valmont and/or Customer specifications and tolerancesOperate welding equipment to perform MIG and/or Flux Core welding to meet all applicable AWS and customer requirementsUse GMAW and/or FCAW processes to tack welding together assemblies consisting of components of various shapes, sizes, and weights. Read and interprets welding symbolsRead and interpret work orders and daily production schedules Write entries on a daily production log to show work completedUses proper safety equipment and proceduresBe responsible for understanding proper use of all equipment in arms area and/or small parts, including but not limited to pipe saw, Peidrick pipe bender, arm bender, plasma, drills, welding equipment, welding positioner, cutting torch, jib cranes, deburr lathe, fitter jigs, etc.Use motorized grinders, buffers, stone grinders, die grinders and drills to assemble parts according to prescribed specifications, codes, and drawings.Perform visual inspections to identify material discrepancies to assure welds have been completed satisfactorily in compliance with applicable drawings and specificationsUse weld gauge to measure weld sizeFrequently lifts, pushes, and pulls up to 50 poundsMust be able to operate various forklifts and electric pallet jacks to move productOperates jib crane or overhead crane to lift and position components exceeding 50 poundsOther duties as assigned

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

Must be able to read and write EnglishAbility to use common manufacturing math1 year experience reading and using blueprints1 year previous experience working in a manufacturing or fabrication environment, and/or have graduated from an acceptable Technical Training Program focused in welding Must pass GMAW and FCAW weld test and maintain certification

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

2 years previous experience working in an assembly environment2 years previous experience working in a manufacturing or fabrication environment2 years previous experience operating hand and/or power toolsThe ability to accurately and honestly check one’s own work for quality assuranceMust be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Ambient temperatures in work area coincide with seasonal weather changes.  Exposure to metal and smoke fumes due to surrounding processes.  Abnormal noise level throughout the shop requiring that hearing protection worn at all times.  Direct exposure to dirt, grease, mill scale, cutting fluid, rust inhibitors, and metal particles and splinters.

Incumbent will also be exposed to production facilities where specific PPE will be required such as hand, hearing, foot, eye, and head protection.  There will also be frequent exposure to outside elements for short periods of time.  Being outside will also expose them to material handling equipment such as forklifts, straddle trucks, and shag trucks.
