Summary

The primary duty of a welder is to join metal parts together in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.  After reading and interpreting diagrams, s/he prepares and sets up equipment by laying out, positioning, and aligning components so that they fit together.  The welder welds parts using various types of arcs such as gas, metal, and aluminum, etc.  S/he may assemble parts by bolting and riveting and may repair products.  The welder is responsible for inspecting workpieces for defects and ensuring specifications are met.  

Roles and Responsibilities Operating safely all welding equipment and applying safety practices at work while performing duties Welding spare parts in various directions: flat, horizontal, vertical or overhead, etc. Igniting flame or striking an arc while welding or performing other electricity-related work to weld part of a metal structure Supervising and identifying any fault in operating the equipment or in relation to any material or equipment Clamping, holding, tack-welding, heat-bending, bolting, or grinding spare parts as necessary to satisfy the technical requirements and create a welded final product Operating other accessory equipment and performing some tasks necessary for welding metal, such as fusing metal segments, using gas tungsten arc, metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, aluminum and other types of welding arcs Controlling the processes of fitting, burning and welding to avoid problems in relation to overheat, distortion, expansion or shrink of spare parts Examining finished products and spare parts and comparing them with samples to check whether the specifications are met Preparing and setting up necessary tools and equipment for welding job such as shielded metal arc, gas metal arc or other welding equipment Arranging and ensuring the welded parts are arranged in order before being assembled into final products; using such tools as square, caliper or ruler for this task Welding rebar to steel h piles
  Requirements High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of two year of related experience and/or training Certified Welder Understand different types of welds Ability to exert heavy physical effort, handling average weight objects up to 80 pounds Ability to kneel, stoop, crouch, balance, climb or crawl Ability to tolerate heights and maintain balance Ability to correctly rig and hoist material Ability to signal, rig & work safely with cranes Willing to travel to different job sites Must have own transportation
