Join Our Team as a Welding Supervisor!

 

Are you passionate about Leadership? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to coordinate our Welding Supervisor function. As a Welding Supervisor, you’ll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team. The Supervisor is responsible for the operations of the work area, leading a team of Team Leads and hourly team members to achieve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC). The Supervisor provides day-to-day work direction, plans work orders and resources, drives problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives, and promotes an engaged and safety-focused team culture to achieve department and organizational goals.  

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee all activities of the department/work area/line to achieve KPIs and organizational goals Oversee and/or lead the daily startup meeting, weekly quality and safety meetings, and conduct daily shift handovers to disseminate critical information and provide updates on work area and organizational items Plan, prioritize and schedule work orders in Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM), manage exceptions, liaise with the planning team, and monitor departmental budgets to achieve operational targets Oversee the implementation of standardized work documents and adoption of Lean Manufacturing concepts to establish clear quality standards, limit production loss and aid the achievement of production output targets Lead problem solving and continuous improvement initiatives, using the 4 Step Problem Solving methodology (4SPS) and completion of A3's to solve reoccurring issues and improve on the effectiveness of the team Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Leadership, Engineering, Design, Quality, Materials Management and Maintenance) to achieve objectives and influence the resolution of high-priority and payoff problem solving and continuous improvement activities Monitor outputs and conduct regular ad hoc visual inspections to identify abnormality, monitor adherence to standardized work and ensure targets are met Oversee all KPI boards and analyze production data to identify trends, problems, and opportunities for improvement Track and report out on production data and KPIs through use of KPI boards and leadership meetings Enter maintenance PSR and design issues, schedule maintenance and escalate equipment issues as required Champion a safety culture by checking 5S, identifying risks, completing JSAs, implementing controls to maintain a safe working environment, investigating and reporting on safety incidents and actioning Intelex tasks Role model appropriate and professional workplace behaviors, address/mediate conflicts to restore harmony, and support a positive, healthy and inclusive workplace culture in accordance with S&C's mission, vision, values and guiding principles Manage administrative processes including but not limited to team/project budgets, recruitment, induction, vacation management, performance reviews, performance improvement plans, payroll and workforce/succession planning Proactively establish, monitor, and hold team members accountable to clear responsibilities and accountabilities, provide ongoing performance feedback, both positive and developmental, address performance gaps in a timely manner, recognize and reward achievements, and initiate decisions for corrective actions and terminations where required Foster a culture that supports the growth and development of team members by training, mentoring and coaching Team Leads, overseeing the Team Lead with coordinating mandatory training and development training as well as scheduling Work Element (WE) certification and update WE in CARE Wear appropriate PEE including safety goggles, gloves and hearing protection Understand and comply with all applicable Company policies and rules Maintain regular and punctual attendance Attend in-person or virtual meetings as requested or required Communicate effectively and respectfully with others Other responsibilities as assigned

Completion of an Electrical or Mechanical Trade Certificate, Apprenticeship program, or similar Diploma, Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in operations management, technical/engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience 

Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

·       Demonstrated supervisory experience working in a production/manufacturing environment 

·       Technical aptitude and detailed knowledge and understanding of upstream/downstream flow, manufacturing processes, working to drawings/schematics and quality control methodologies including standard work specifications/processes 

·       Strong interpersonal skills to build mutual respect and trust, resolve conflict, moderate behaviours and foster collaborative working relationships amongst a diverse audience 

·       Excellent leadership skills with an ability to lead, guide, coach and motivate groups of people to deliver results, build teams and capabilities, embrace change, drive decisions and results, embrace culture and inclusion and exhibit integrity 

·       Excellent verbal and written communication and listening skills including the ability to provide clear and direct instructions on work procedures, deliver feedback and engage with stakeholders across various departments and levels 

·       Strong organizational, planning and project management skills, coordinating internal and external resources, creative problem-solving when obstacles arise, and the ability to negotiate and manage budgetary and other resources to maximum effectiveness 

·       Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to leverage data to distil trends and insights that drive continuous improvement 

·       Proficient in prioritizing, directing and delegating work 

·       Decision-making capabilities with an ability to make balanced and informed decisions that help S&C achieve business goals 

·       Knowledge of safety regulations and a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment 

·       Preferred  

·       Proficient computer skills including experience using Oracle and Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) 

·       Knowledge of key S&C manufacturing tools and programs including lean principles, 5S, standardized work, SIPS, 4SPS etc. 

 

Physical demands:

Standing: Occasionally required to stand and perform tasks for up to approximately 2 hours at a time, 5 days per week Sitting: Frequently required to remain in a stationary position and perform desk-based or production tasks for up to approximately 2 hours at a time, 5 days per week Walking: Frequently required to walk moderate distances across the S amp;C campus multiple times per day, 5 days per week Lifting and Carrying: Infrequently required to solo lift and/or carry items ranging in weight from 5 lbs to 40 lbs,  exercising sound judgement to employ manual handling or machine lifts where required and risk assessments, if appropriate Low Posture: Infrequently required to perform tasks using a low posture including but not limited to stooping, bending, crawling, crouching, kneeling or squatting Position Self/ Move: Occasionally required to position self to perform tasks involving but not limited to reaching, twisting, rotating, and pushing/pulling Manual Dexterity: Occasionally required to use hand-eye coordination to control both hands and arms for a full range of motion to operate equipment/machinery/power tools Ascending/ Descending: Infrequently ascending or descending ladders and stairs Observation/ Eyesight: Frequently required to observe details at close range including depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to differentiate between colors Communication: Continuously required to talk and hear, in person and by phone/conference calls, using oral expression to communicate information Availability: Occasionally required to work extended hours when necessary
