Position Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for effectively leading and growing the design engineering team, providing operational execution oversight, and support pursuing new work opportunities within the region. They will be expected to have a firm understanding of the regional team’s technical capabilities, the needs of major local clients, competitors and key partners, and available talent pool from local competitors and universities. The role requires the successful candidate to engage both new and existing clients within the region to solidify strong relationships and best position their team to build a stable and growing backlog for T&D work. The successful candidate should have experience in opportunity sorting to help determine if a potential project should be bid or not bid based on an effective evaluation of the impactful variables. They should have experience mentoring new and experienced regional managers through their challenges and helping them meet individual career goals. The role requires an in-depth understanding of project and business line financials including reporting and presenting these results to senior leadership. They will help lead and implement short-term and long-term regional market strategies to set the best course supporting the business.

Kiewit Power Delivery is a full-service engineering and construction solutions provider, completing projects of all sizes and complexity. Across North America, our experience spans all transmission and distribution market aspects from high-voltage overhead and underground transmission to distribution design, automation design and construction capabilities. With these broad capabilities, we operate in the electric utility, renewable energy, industrial, and oil and gas markets. 

Location

This position is based out of an established Kiewit office: San Diego, CA, Irvine, CA, Portland, OR, or Salt Lake City, UT. The ability to travel at least 25% to client, project or Kiewit office locations within the region is expected.

Responsibilities

•    Develop and grow the regional business by building relationships throughout each clients’ engineering operations organization, with key subcontractors and strategic external partners, and with local Kiewit districts.
•    Coordinate between regional engineering operations and business development to champion communication with client decision makers and promote client partner culture. 
•    Sponsor major regional business development pursuits, key partnerships, strategy and initiatives, including development and review of proposals and estimates.  
•    Oversee or lead business plan initiatives and collaborate with other leaders to align resources to accomplish objectives.
•    Work to fully comprehend the business, industry and changing marketplace the organization resides in; align discipline personnel to meet changing business requirements.
•    Seek ways to improve customer satisfaction, the quality of the work product, and operating efficiencies. Find opportunities to leverage technology.
•    Identify, evaluate, and mitigate operating risks inherent in the business that could materially impact the company’s reputation and/or operating results.
•    Coordinate staffing needs, resource availability, and work sharing routinely with business line peers.
•    Grow operational capability and scale through talent acquisition. 
•    Partner with Human Resources to lead regional recruiting, talent evaluations, wage reviews, performance management, developmental training nominations and succession planning.
•    Develop and execute a communications plan, ensuring regional team members are routinely informed of strategy, goals, policies, and objectives.
•    Promote development and mentorship of regional managers and future leaders, include mapping of career paths, goals and opportunities.
•    Demonstrate servant leadership through a recurring presence in each office. Promote Kiewit culture.
•    Manage regional P&L financial performance to optimize revenue delivered, achieved net gain and billable utilization.
•    Act as the Engineering Project Manager and/or Project Manager on an interim basis for major power delivery engagements.
 

Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.) in engineering from an ABET accredited university. 15+ years’ of relevant experience performing design engineering within the power delivery industry, including working knowledge of all disciplines (civil, permitting & environmental, substation, transmission, and distribution). Require a minimum of 5 years of experience managing power delivery T&D projects in Western Region of the U.S. with annual revenues of $10M+. Current or recent experience in leading and managing an engineering regional office, large project, or department. Additionally, demonstrated expertise in overseeing and guiding teams of engineers and designers, with a successful track record of building cohesive teams at various organizational levels. Professional Engineering license (required), PMP Certification (desired). Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence in taking initiative.  Ability to manage projects and progress ideas to execution in a complex environment. Good negotiation, presentation, and persuasion skills.  Experienced in communicating ideas, winning approval, and reaching resolutions with a variety of audiences. Strong analytical ability along with the capacity to interpret data and make recommendations. Comfortable with change and ambiguity; adaptable, collaborative and a systems thinker. Reputation of integrity, maturity, and sound business judgement.  Fluent in English language. Legally able to work within the United States for any length of time. #LI-MD1

Base Compensation: $210,118/yr - $291,953/yr

(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
