Overview Our Environmental Sector delivers comprehensive environmental solutions to meet the full project lifecycle needs of clients in renewable energy, oil - gas, transportation, and manufacturing industries. With one of the largest multimedia air and land permitting and compliance teams in the country, we support client success in manufacturing and industry, liquids delivery and processing, natural gas storage and delivery, power generation and delivery, and transportation projects. POSITION SUMMARY TRC is seeking a Wetland Scientist / Lead Wetland Delineator with our Environmental Practice to be based in our Ithaca, Liverpool, West Seneca, or Clifton Park, New York Office. This individual will be a lead wetland delineator and function as task manager for field surveys. This person will mentor field technicians and entry level staff to support their development of field skills (e.g., plant identification and soil characterization). The successful applicant will be a part of our Permitting, Planning, and Licensing group and will be involved in a wide variety of projects across New York, including many renewable energy projects across New York. There is also the option to support long-term field assignments in other states, if interested and available. TRC supports attendance at conferences, trainings, and continued professional development for staff members. Responsibilities KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - TASKS Lead wetland delineations and functional assessments based on the USACE 1987 Manual and applicable regional supplements. Lead habitat and other biological surveys with minimal supervision. Manage field teams and logistics. Serve as a technical resource for environmental reporting related to terrestrial and aquatic resources. Prepare field data reports and permit applications to support permitting and licensing efforts. Coordinate closely with the TRC geographic information system (GIS) team to develop required mapping for permitting and other environmental documents. Support other biological surveys including vernal pool, winter raptor surveys, and habitat assessments for protected species/species of special concern. Provide oversight of implementation of construction Best Management Practices and provide input on restoration or mitigation strategies during construction. Train junior staff on plant identification, soil characterization, and hydrologic indicators. Abide by Company policies and procedures. Other duties and special projects as assigned. Qualifications Requirements: We seek appropriately qualified candidates with a minimum of 3 to 5+ years of applicable experience with a Bachelor-s or Master-s degree in wetland science, environmental science, biology, wildlife, natural resources, ecology, botany, forestry, or related field. Experience with state (NYSDEC) and federal (USACE) wetland and environmental permitting (401 Water Quality Certification, Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act, and Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, etc.). Candidates should have familiarity with key environmental federal and state statutes and regulations, including the U.S. Endangered Species Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, and Clean Water Act. Clear and concise technical writing and communication skills are mandatory. Ability to support business development efforts including preparing proposals, delivering presentations, and participating in meetings with clients. Excellent data collection skills and work with a variety of GPS and ArcGIS equipment. Ability to understand and observe scope, schedule, budget, and quality while meeting client needs. Maintain a positive attitude and deliver exceptional client service and leadership, while sometimes working under aggressive schedules and with controversial projects. Experience with preparing technical reports, permit applications, and mitigation monitoring plans. Preferred Qualifications: Professional Wetland Scientist Certification or the ability to obtain is preferred. Knowledge of the following: Northeastern flora and fauna, plant species identification, wetland field delineation, natural resource inventory, and wildlife habitat assessments. Preference will also be given to applicants that have experience working on energy, transportation, and solar projects, as well as experience completing other biological surveys (e.g., winter raptor surveys, breeding bird surveys, bat surveys) and/or with New York state and local permitting and siting. Demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff to encourage their professional development. In accordance with local law, the following compensation range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition: $60,000-$103,000. Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors. Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
