Position Summary:

To perform a variety of responsible clerical tasks utilizing knowledge of office systems and policies/procedures of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program.

Position Key Accountabilities:

Greets people as they sign in. Screens the client to determine the purpose of the appointment. Makes future appointments as needed, explains application procedure, and answers questions for applicants who walk in or call to request appointments.  Answer and process telephone calls. Screen and verify WIC participant eligibility using eligibility policies as indicated by federal, state, and local agency guidelines and enter data as appropriate into participant’s electronic medical record.  Make social services referrals as needed. Obtain and document participant height and weight measurements and/or fingerstick blood samples as necessary, using appropriate procedures and guidelines Issue food benefits to participants using established procedures.  Explain WIC benefits and the correct procedure for redemption of food benefits to new participants.  Schedule and coordinate return WIC appointments. Perform other related clerical duties as required.

Certification/Skills:

Bilingual in Spanish preferred

Basic knowledge of standard Microsoft Office Software such as Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.

Minimum Education:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Minimum Experience:

One (1) year of relevant work experience in a setting related to public contact, health care, or social service.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Security Sensitive:

This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
