Position Overview:
The selected candidate will assist with preparation, planning, implementation, and management of prescribed fire and fuel mitigation projects at Austin Water’s Wildland Conservation Division (WCD). The candidate will be one of a team of three at WCD’s prescribed fire and fuels program.

Driving Requirement:
This position requires a valid Texas Class C Driver License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months. This position will be required to travel and report to other Austin Water/City of Austin worksites.


Effective October 1, 2014, all Austin Water worksite locations are tobacco-free. Duties, Functions and Responsibilities Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned. Assists with coordination, development and delivery of wildfire education programs and training to support Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPP). Engages community involvement to address all elements of the Fire Adapted Community’s (FAC) objectives of the National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management Strategy, supporting safe and effective wildfire response, fire adapted communities, and fire resilient landscapes. Develops presentations and educational materials for community wildfire safety including coordinating with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analysts to develop area risk models. Liaison with internal and external city department partners, agencies, and community resources for joint efforts in wildfire education and training. Assists with assessment and development of wildland fire prevention strategies based on documented fire causes. Assists in development and delivery of online wildfire safety and evacuation plans and communication strategies for communities. Assists with mitigation training and wildfire prevention, including prescribed burns. Reviews, interprets, and educates on wildfire-related policies, codes, regulations, ordinances, plans, and proposals for compliance.
