The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) manages one of the largest and most diverse state parks systems in the nation and protects and enhances natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts. DCR is a dynamic agency and is one of the largest park systems in the nation. Statewide Initiative and Program Duties:
The Office Support Specialist will support the Manager of Statewide Initiatives and Programs and the Statewide Initiatives Coordinator. Duties will include assisting with the implementation and logistics of DCR’s signature programs primarily DCR Summer Nights initiative.
About DCR Summer Nights
Since 2015, the DCR Summer Nights program has provided free, safe youth-based programs for thousands of at-risk teens and young adults in urban areas across the Commonwealth. The program demonstrates commitment to urbanyouth development, builds community, fosters activities that promote healthy lifestyles and promotes shared stewardship of our parks. In 2024, DCR partnered with 100 organizations provided variety of educational and recreational programs to over 22,000 participants across the state. Programs are held at DCR, municipal and partner facilities.
Detailed Statement of Duties and Responsibilities· This position will assist with the preparation of promotional material for Summer Nights program including a comprehensive program schedule listing of partners, dates and program description. This will require regular communications via email and phone with outside organization and partners. There are an estimated 100 organizations this position would be coordinating with.
· This position will collect information from partners regarding State and Local police details and create a spreadsheet with hours, locations and program contact.
· In addition, this position will assist the Statewide Initiatives Coordinator with compiling program bid and proposal documents.
· This position will attend weekly meetings virtual and in person.
· This position will also support other signature agency initiatives on a needed basis, including First Day Hikes.
This position will work a hybrid work schedule (1-2 days in office/site visits/trainings and remaining days remote). Agency laptop and cell phone will be provided. This position will be required to work signature events including First Day Hikes.
Qualifications: Ability to learn the rules, regulations, and policy governing DCR facilities. Incumbents should have strong verbal and written communication skills. The successful candidate should be self-motivated, have strong organizational skills and be capable of planning large projects with many logistics. Incumbent should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to build good strong working relationships with DCR staff and partners. Must be able to work a flexible work schedule, including evenings during summer and some weekends and holidays. Must have a valid Massachusetts License. Some travel is required throughout the state.
Computer Skills: Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop, familiarity with social media including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

II. An Associate's or higher degree with a major other than in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
