The Opportunity:
The OMC, Woodyard supervisor reports to the Superintendent, Woodyard. This role will have operational responsibility on shift for the Woodyard day to day operations which includes interfacing with other departments and troubleshooting any operational and/or quality issues while ensuring the woodyard maximizes mill throughput and minimizes mill costs. This role will communicate to their team the operating plan for the day or week and follow through in addition to communicating maintenance activities in other areas of the mill that will affect the woodyard operations.
How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:
Responsible for all aspects of safety including crew safety, adherence to standards, policies, and procedures, pre-job planning, job hazard analyses, and accident/incident investigation. This role also promotes and participates in all elements of the safety programs at Smurfit Westrock Evadale.Coordinates/authorizes shutdown of equipment, lockout/tagout, confirmed space entry, and hot work permits and develops auxiliary equipment lockout/tagout procedures as needed to ensure a safe working environment for maintenance and operations employees.Understands and adheres to the Evadale Operations Environmental Policy and related responsibilities and procedures, and immediately reports any environmental excursions appropriately per Company policy.Understands and applies the principles of the Smurfit Westrock Quality Policies daily.Leads troubleshooting efforts on issues impacting production or quality, and documents and reports appropriately all significant out-of-range data and corrective actions taken.Works with other salaried personnel to ensure scheduled equipment downtime is effectively utilized and unscheduled downtime minimized.Conducts proactive and audit activities related to safety, housekeeping, and operational compliance to ensure crew members are meeting expectations and provides communication to the Superintendent. This also includes monitoring department performance against objectives for shift and overall KPI’s in safety, quality, production, cost, environmental and organizational effectiveness.Ensures communication throughout the shifts are efficient and thorough to coordinate steam and water balance with other mill operating departments to optimize total production.Responsible for the on-the-job training and development of each crew member and works with the Utilities TA to identify training needs.Responsible for performance reviews and instruction/coaching including monitoring attendance and addressing issues per company guidelines and policies.Deliver operational excellence by coordinating activities between production and maintenance by prioritizing daily work, planning, scheduled shutdowns, managing maintenance backlogs, and reduce break in work. Also responsible for working with Maintenance to prioritize and approve break-in or emergency work and scheduling on-the-run backlog.Maintain “planned work order” backlog according to guidelines and utilize the backlog to schedule daily and weekly work lists and serves a project originator for maintenance capital in asset area, including documentation.Responsible for conducting business with integrity and respect, being accountable, and actively pursuing excellence.What you need to succeed:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering with previous power generation experience preferred or more than 10 years of paper mill operational experience, with at least 5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.Proven track record of interpersonal and collaboration skills to achieve goals and objectives Leadership and coaching skills leveraged to motivate others to achieve performance excellence, develop knowledge and capability, and foster a culture of learningStrong written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated ability quickly learn programs and software used in pulp mill facilityExperience working in a union environmentStrong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite, SAP, PI, OpenText, and Kronos timekeeping systemAligned with our company values of Integrity, Respect, Accountability, and Excellence
