Wound Ostomy Nurse (RN)

Full Time - Day Shift (M-F, 7:30a-4:00p, no weekends)
Position Objective:
The Wound Ostomy Nurse (WON) or Wound Ostomy Continence (WOC N) serves as the clinical resource and consultant for the acute care setting within the hospital relative to the care of the patient with selected disorders of the gastrointestional, genitourinary and integumentary systems.

Utilizes and maintains current physical assessment skills and interview techniques to determine patient needs.When possible or requested by the surgeon for an outpatient stoma marking, determines the appropriate site for stoma placement, considering patient’s anatomical markings, physical capabilities and lifestyle.Provides appropriate written information to patients and staff, including postoperative and discharge instructions, referrals and supply needs.Serves as a resource for ostomy patients after discharge through scheduled outpatient consultations and telephone consultation.Serves as a resource/clinical expert regarding pressure injury prevention.Provides consultation and direct assistance to nursing staff on issues related to patients with altered skin integrity secondary to pressure, necrosis, drainage or continence disorders.Supports the Interdisciplinary team of physician, case manager, physical therapy, nutritional expert with preparing patients for treatments and discharging patients as needed.Responsible for review and implementation of the JCAHO standards in collaboration with the Nurse Supervisor/Manager in the inpatient setting.Facilitates and assists the education and the precepting of new staff in both the inpatient settings.Expertly employs real time computer documentation when completing the patient EMR.Educational/Experience Requirements:
Required Minimum Experience: Minimum of three years as a Registered Nurse in a care setting applicable to related nursing setting
Required Minimum Education: BS degree, BSN preferred
Required License/Certifications:
Certified in Wound and OstomyCurrent licensure as a registered nurse by the Maryland Board of Nursing.Adherence to credentialing requirements of AAMC as stated in the nursing bylaws.Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:
