Summary The Congressional Research Service (CRS) Congressional Programs & Communications Office (CPC) seeks a Writer-Editor to write and edit CRS communications, maintain internal websites, and provide communications support. The selectee will support the organization’s goals to foster a culture of communication and improve internal and external communications. This is a not to exceed 120 days appointment with the possibility of an extension(s), not to exceed 1 year. Responsibilities The Writer-Editor is responsible for performing a variety of internal and external communications duties. Major duties of the Writer-Editor position include writing and editing materials, especially the weekly staff newsletter; planning and coordinating activities related to the CRS intranet, including maintaining internal SharePoint sites; providing communications support, including serving as a liaison to CRS offices and divisions, planning and coordinating activities related to social media and media tracking; and other internal and external communications activities. The Writer-Editor plans, researches, writes, edits and proofreads a variety of materials for the Director’s Office. These materials may include: digital communications, creating and disbursing all-staff emails, brochures, a weekly staff newsletter, features and news articles, and other marketing materials. The Writer-Editor also maintains online content for CRS’s staff intranet and drafts social media content and coordinates the social media calendar, including the @CRS4Congress account. The Writer-Editor assists the Head of Congressional Programs and Communications with strategic digital communications in line with the CRS Strategic Plan and the CRS Operations/Directional Plan. Candidates with professional experience in journalism, communications, or public affairs are encouraged to apply. Knowledge of SharePoint is preferred. Knowledge of social media is strongly encouraged and experience as a Responsible Content Authority (RCA) is also preferred. CRS works exclusively for the United States Congress, providing policy and legal analysis to committees and Members of both the House and Senate, regardless of party affiliation. The position will be filled at either the GS-09 (position description number 386162) or the GS-11 (position description number 386163). The salary range indicated reflects the locality pay adjustments for the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan area. The incumbent of this position will work a full-time flexitime work schedule. This is a non-supervisory, bargaining unit position. Relocation expenses will not be authorized for the person(s) selected under this vacancy announcement. Education Additional Information Although it is the Library's policy to afford the maximum pay benefit to employees when setting rates of pay, a new appointee who has had no previous Federal service will generally be paid at step one of the grade.
