About this role:
We are looking for a Principal, Research to support the discovery of actionable ideas that will help U.S. Federal Government and National Defense CIOs accelerate IT modernization and digital transformation initiatives.

Journalism/Writing Background: You have a background in journalism or professional writing, with a knack for crafting clear and engaging narratives.
Federal Government Knowledge: You possess extensive knowledge of the U.S. federal government.
Research Enthusiasm: You are driven by curiosity and have a passion for conducting thorough research to uncover valuable insights.
In this role, you will be a key player in the Government Practice’s ongoing research initiative focused on US Federal Government and National Defense and Security adoption of emerging technologies. This includes exploring how Chief Information Officers (CIOs), Chief AI Officers, and other technology leaders can advance their organization’s mission and functions through enabling technologies and best practices.
This role enables you to explore your intellectual curiosity in a collaborative, team-based environment. You’ll be offered robust training, support and coaching to achieve career success and advance within the research organization. The team puts significant emphasis on the personal and professional development of each associate.
What you will do:
Learn and execute Gartner's proven methodology for conducting world-class research that helps identify and asses best practice technology solutions to many challenges in U.S. federal government and national defense
Manage key research deliverables, including but not limited to: large research studies, white papers, case studies, presentations and webinars, guidebooks, templates, roundtable discussions, or custom, in-bound research requests.
Serve as a thought partner to senior leadership and help shape the strategy of the team by identifying and driving innovations in line with the goals of the research team and Gartner.
Conduct research interviews and in-person meetings with C-level executives and use these interactions to drive research deliverables and inform research colleagues of key insights shaping the landscape.
Stay abreast of key technology and policy trends affecting the US federal government and national defense departments and agencies
Drive timely and relevant research plans.
What you will need:
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
Master’s degree and/or PhD in a social science, public policy, public administration preferred.
5+ years of experience conducting primary and secondary research utilizing qualitative and quantitative data.
Deep knowledge of U.S. federal government, national defense, and/or similar fields.
Strong business acumen and intellectual curiosity in order to process and understand information quickly, as well as diagnose issues to make actionable recommendations.
Experience converting qualitative and quantitative information into clear frameworks, narratives and visually compelling presentations.
What you will have:
Critical thinker and problem solver demonstrating the ability to assess business problems and provide actionable, outcome-based insights.
A great writer with experience publishing business related deliverables such as presentations, white papers, articles, etc.
Excellent communicator and relationship manager who enjoys working with C-level Executives and can disseminate complex data through relevant means.
Strong organizational and project management skills
Enjoy working independently as well as part of a team.

Gartner believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is 76,000 USD - 106,260 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based, uncapped sales incentive plan.
