Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an X-Ray Technologist.

In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for performing medically prescribed radiographic procedures.

Job Responsibilities:

Maintains supplies and cleanliness of space and restocks supplies as neededNotifies supervisor of any shortage of any suppliesAssists section in completion of special projects reports and activitiesMaintains cooperative and professional relationships with patients, physicians, nurses, office and clinical staffDemonstrates skill in equipment set up utilization and proper maintenance procedurePerforms visual and manual quality control checks of X ray equipment including monitors used for routine dictation/reading of clinical imagesUses imaging and peripheral equipment in a safe and productive manner in accordance with prescribed hospital departmental and manufacturers proceduresObserves and reports any malfunctioning of the equipment and notifies appropriate persons in case of missing or damaged equipmentIs able to recognize a medical emergency and notifies nurse PA and/or MD immediatelyDemonstrates knowledge of proper radiation safety procedures and incorporates them into the performance of all radiographic proceduresUses gonadal shielding on all patients whenever possibleRestricts beam to the smallest possible area ensuring the least possible exposure to the patient without compromising qualityEliminates the possibility of accidental exposures to x ray by all personsMaintains radiation detection badges and rings appropriately and returns them as requiredPerforms transmission and/or segmentation for transmission to PACS in a complete and proper anatomic displayGenerates high quality hard copies of images when necessary Uses efficient methods and completes examinations assigned in reasonable amount of timeMaintains cleanliness of radiographic areaPrepares equipment and supplies in advance for future examsMakes alterations in work schedule for STAT and emergency cases Is able to alter work patterns to satisfy the needs of the patient and medical staffFollows special instructions indicated on radiographic requisitionIndependently implements patient procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standardsExplains the procedure and equipment to the patient clearlyAnswers patient questions to ensure understanding and patient satisfactionProvides for patient comfort before during and after procedure and maintains an ongoing rapport with the patient throughout the procedure to ease any anxiety the patient may haveProvides for patient privacy at all timesPositions patient and radiographic equipment appropriate to the body parts to be radiographed and adjusts equipment settings accordingly to insure maximum information is obtained Uses lead markers appropriatelyFollows accepted radiologic proceduresEnsures that all x rays completed are of high qualityUses positioning and immobilizing devices to improve radiographic qualityConsiders variety of protocols and rationale in determining radiographic positioning and techniqueDemonstrates knowledge of the HIS and is able to access patient data for verification of ordersCompetent in scheduling exams in RIS from the order entry queue and/or demonstrates the ability to modify exams when necessaryIs knowledgeable of the total cycle of RIS patient tracking Follows departmental policy of documenting begin complete and departure times when appropriate in the RIS Has working knowledge of film library functionsDemonstrates ability to access patient information such as appointment times type of exam and patient reports Maintains confidentiality on matters to which they are privilegedDemonstrates knowledge of the hospital and radiology information systems as they relate to radiologyCorrectly chooses appropriate patient information from HIS/RIS system in accordance with HIPAA regulationsUses standard procedures to identify the correct patient using two identifiers full name and birth dateChecks patients wristband by name to ensure patients ID matches examination requisition Calls patient by last name asking patient to confirm their identity by stating their first name Introduces self to the patientReviews patients requisition and understands the type of exam required by each requisition and confers with medical staff regarding clarification when necessarySeeks information or asks for assistance from supervisor regarding difficult or questionable resultsFollows accepted radiologic procedures and uses medical information to determine type of protocol required for radiographic examinationConsults policy and procedure manuals and/or other reference materials as necessary to ensure actions conform to established protocolsFollows special instructions indicated on radiographic requisitionRecognizes need for and follows isolation precautionsEffectively assesses patients information and status and follows appropriate procedure s accordinglyPerforms other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Certificate from accredited School of Radiologic TechnologyNew York State license or temporary permit to practice Diagnostic RadiologyCertified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists ARRTTemporary permit to practice Diagnostic Radiography issued by New York State Department of Health is acceptable for 180 days only ARRT credentialed License will be required after the 180 have passed.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $88,210.20 - $100,592.20 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
