Yellow Iron Mechanic
**Overview** **$40-50 dollars an hour, depending on experience.** **The Heavy Equipment Technician (Yellow Iron) reports to the Maintenance Supervisor. The Heavy Equipment Technician is personally responsible for performing complex preventative maintenance tasks, and troubleshoots and repairs a wide variety of operational equipment (Trucks and Yellow Iron).** + **To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned. Repairs as needed equipment (including, but not limited to, bulldozers, skid stears, front-end loaders, yards trucks, tractors, forklifts, and company vehicles).** + **Diagnoses and repairs differentials, hydraulic systems, motors, transmissions, drives, air conditioning systems, and electrical systems.** + **Performs tasks per preventative maintenance checklist.** + **Completes records such as work orders, card files, P.M. checklists, and oil samples.** + **Services and maintains other equipment such as light plants, water pump, welders, and other equipment.** Interstate Waste Services is the most progressive and innovative provider of solid waste and recycling services in the country! What makes our company culture unique is we have mastered the ability to balance the standards of a large corporate company while maintaining our small business family style culture. **Responsibilities** OurYellow IronDieselTechnicians/Mechanicsperform inspection, diagnosis, preventative maintenance,and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment,primarilyincludingyellow iron machinery,diesel heavy trucks and engines.The Technicianor Mechanicisnot onlyresponsible forunderstandingmaintenance and breakdown needsandinitiating/assigningnecessary repairs, but also must be able tooperatethe machinery being repaired. At times, the Technician may be on call, andrequiredtoassistwith emergency breakdowns. **Additional** **Responsibilities** + Maintains advanced knowledge to diagnose and repair mechanical problems on heavy equipment (heavy equipment includes but not limitedto:yellow iron machinery, tractor trailers, forklifts, and other diesel trucks) + Performs repairs and assigned preventative maintenance services. + Estimates time and material cost on vehicle repairs and requisition of new parts. + Conduct safety checks on vehicles. + Completes required paperworkutilizingfleetmaintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting part usage, and accounting for repair time. + Reviews, completes, or assigns repairsidentifiedon Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports. + Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Company safety protocols and OSHA standards. + This position will have no direct reports, however they will workin collaboration withthe other yellow iron diesel mechanicon staff, although ondifferent shifts. + Assists Sr. Technicians in the completion of project work. + Must be able to lifr 50 lbs + Performs other duties as assigned **Qualifications** + Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States. + A valid driver’s license is _required_ . CDLa plus. + _At least 5 years_ of experience in job duties. + Sanitation or construction industry experience a plus. + Computer diagnostic experience as diesel technician a plus. + Experience with troubleshooting/repairing DPF systems diagnostic software such as Premium Tech Tool (Mack), Allison transmission, Cummins, CAT,Peterbilt, and Paccar. + Working knowledge of applicable DOT and OSHA standards and regulations. + Must be able to speak and read English well enough to converse with colleagues,driversand dispatch, and be able to make legible entries on reports and records. + Must be able to meet the physical and safety requirements of the position. + Must be able toprovideown tools **Additional Information** We believe in providing the training and development you need to grow your career with IWS.
