Youth Basketball Referee

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Sports Director, the referee is responsible for officiating youth basketball, games for enrolled participants


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Responsible for being prompt and professional during all games and program activitiesInteract with coaches, other sports officials / umpires, youth, parents and YMCA staffEnforce program rules and policies by maintaining constant surveillance of program participantsSet up facility or equipment, store equipment, and secure facility upon completion of games/program (on an as needed basis)Report equipment problemsEnsure safety of members/participantsPerform other duties as assigned.Monitors the area at all times to ensure safety, and immediately makes changes as necessary.Provides a positive environment for all participants, and actively encourages participation to ensure growth and development.Exemplifies appropriate behavior and is a role model for participants; actively listens to all children and shows patience, understanding, and respect for others.Instructs and guides participants through the rules of the program and ensures adherence; disciplines children within established guidelines of the YMCA and parent, and only when appropriate.Immediately reports all unusual incidents or accidents to the Sports Director, and fills out all applicable and necessary reports.Responsible for upholding all staff safety requirements including cleaning protocols throughout the day, as required by my department.All other duties as assigned Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Successfully meet the Association’s policies on background screeningMust have previous playing or officiating experience or have completed referee training clinicAdhere to drug/alcohol/smoke free workplace policyAble to maintain confidentialityExcellent verbal and communication skills

CERTIFICATIONS AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

CPR and First Aid Certifications preferredCompletion of YMCA Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Training annuallyCompletion of YMCA Blood borne Pathogens Training annuallyStaff Safety Requirements/Cleaning ProtocolsAdditional training classes as recommended by Supervisor
