Youth Educational Assistant

The Secure Detention Educational Liaison position is responsible for assisting and supporting youth and for contributing insightful, practical, and meaningful information to the treatment planning process. This position will serve as a direct support to youth in regaining the ability to successfully re-enter the classroom setting and will provide youth with educational opportunities during this time.

Job Responsibilities:

Help teachers prepare classroom for class (clean desks, handout pencils, binders, needed materials, etc.) Set up necessary material for classes (as needed) Review material taught in class with individual students with learning challenges Work with individual students or smaller groups of students for remedial teaching and/or reinforcing the learning process Make sure classrooms are safe and tidy before classes start and help tidy up room at day’s end

 

Assist teachers with various tasks:

Making copies Grading assignments,  Cleaning out binders of discharged students,  Setting up new binders for new students Inform teachers of resident issues and concerns prior to class 

 

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree preferred, Associate's degree required. Minimum 1-2 years of experience working with youth. Must have a current, valid driver’s license per Agency guidelines. Travel required.  Candidates must clear the New York State Child Abuse Registry and pass a physical exam. Ability to work with an economically and culturally diverse population.

 

Salary range:

$21.39 – $22.35 This position is Non-Exempt & is eligible for overtime.
