Youth Program Assistant

Job Overview: The Youth Program Assistant supports the IRC’s My New School after school program at Freedom Middle School or Youth Future’s after school program at Clarkston High School and IRC’s Summer Camp. The Youth Program Assistant works with program staff to provide high quality support services to students attending after school and summer camp programs. Assistants provide tutoring, academic support, and college prep with a strong emphasis on empowerment through a strengths-based approach that supports students and families to thrive in their community. This is a part-time opportunity, hours from 3:00pm-6:00pm, at least 3 days/week, Monday-Friday.
Major Responsibilities:Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Assisting with facilitating daily program activities, including workshops, literacy enrichment, social emotional learning, homework and academic support, college and career preparation at Freedom MS or Clarkston HS after school locations.• Assisting with student supervision for daily program activities and field trips.• Supporting staff to recruit after school and summer camp students.• Supporting staff with case management, including conducting student check-ins, and assisting students with homework and college preparation. • Providing general administrative support as needed, such as documentation and file maintenance. • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required
Work Experience:• Relevant professional experience in education or human services field preferred.• Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations strongly preferred.
Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:• Strong desire to support refugee and immigrant students and enthusiasm for working in a multi-cultural setting. • Experience working with youth (specifically in a tutoring capacity) preferred. • Strong communication abilities.• Fluent in English, both spoken and written; proficiency in language(s) spoken by client group is desired.• Excellent organizational skills. • An interest in social justice, education, and refugee issues. • Computer literacy, preferably with PC systems. • Comfortable accompanying youth program staff on home visits. • The ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends.• Valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle.
Working Environment: • A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.• Occasional domestic (non-local) travel required.• May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
Compensation:Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
