Do you enjoy working with and mentoring youth? Do you have an Associates degree in social service or related field or a minimum 60 hours of secondary education coursework in social service or related field?

 

The YOUTH LIFE SKILLS COACH / MENTOR we seek in the Holland, Michigan area prepares our older youth for independent living as they transition to adulthood.  We are looking for an experienced adult staff that can help our youth between the ages of 17 and 18 while they learn the skills they need to transition into independent living. Mentoring is an important and large part of the daily responsibilities of this position.

 

A valid unrestricted driver’s license with good driving record. Reliable personal transportation suitable for safely transporting persons served; proof of current registration and automobile insurance.  The pay for this integral team-oriented role is $17.00 per hour.

Provides direct education and guidance to youth transitioning between foster care and independence living in Staff Supported Housing.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Serve as a role model to youth in residence by modeling responsible behaviors as requiredProvide four hours of education per youth in daily living skills on a weekly basis, including but not limited to household choresMonitor youths’ activities to ensure their safety and wellbeing. Report non-compliance with home rules to the Team Leader and/or Case ManagerMaintain communication with youth to ensure adjustment to program expectationsFacilitate and /or participate in “house meetings” to review house rules, plan activities or discuss other needs of house/groupParticipate in treatment planning meeting with each youth as needed or requestedMaintain adequate awareness of youth’s activities to ensure the safety of the youth, other residents, staff and the home are maintainedReport safety hazards and needed repairs within home and grounds to designated Team Leader, Case Manager or Supervisor _________________________________________________________________________________

Job Qualifications

 

Education, Training, and Licensure/Certification

 

Associates degree in social service or related field or minimum 60 hours coursework of secondary education in social service or related fieldProfessional training in social work, social services or child development preferredValid unrestricted driver’s license with good driving record. Reliable personal transportation suitable for safely transporting persons served; proof of current registration and automobile insurance

Experience

 

Experience working in a group home or residential setting preferredExperience working with youth preferred
