The Youth Specialist will provide supportive services to youth served in Peckham’s youth programs. Peckham operates several youth programs in the capital area serving youth 14-20 years old. The Youth Specialist will provide case management services to juvenile justice involved youth who are in need of vocational services, supportive services, transitional services, and life skills training. The Youth Specialist will demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication; have high energy and enthusiasm, and have extensive experience with group facilitation, treatment planning, and transition planning. This position is responsible for the planning and implementation of each participant’s individualized case management plan that includes but is not limited to career exploration, goal setting, leadership and communication skills, restorative justice projects, group activities, and participation with an inter-agency team to provide comprehensive academic, vocational, and life skills training. This position will involve regular contact with the 30th Judicial Circuit Court as well as additional community agencies. This Youth Specialist will become acclimated to several youth programs within the department and support various teams. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: + Provide person-centered case management services to Peckham youth + Deliver one-on-one coaching, crisis intervention and/or training with program participants + Facilitate cognitive behavioral intervention skill groups + Provide Instruction for CBI-EMP skills, resume development, interview preparation, life skills discussions, and other relevant transitional skills + Provide needed social supports including obtaining personal documents, driver’s licenses, housing support, coordinating with other social service agencies, and public benefits + Guide each participant through their individual goals and help with barrier removal + Work with program staff to coordinate appropriate referrals to community partners including Community Mental Health, Michigan Rehabilitation Services, Michigan Works!, and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services + Maintain strong relationships with Juvenile Court Officers and other community partners + Develop and maintain community employment placements and complete follow up support + Maintain an accurate record of participant progress, engagement, services, and incentives + Complete transition plan and follow up services for each participant OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: + Process initial intake documents; Develop and maintain electronic case files for program participants + Communicate with community agencies and provide information about community resources to enhance support services for program participants + Conduct orientation sessions for new program participants + Work with an interdepartmental team to monitor participants’ progress and enhance the quality of services provided + Research and build resources and team knowledge to help Team Members navigate community resources and internal resources so they can develop independence and self-sustainability + May attend community and Peckham events throughout the year + Maintain a safe and clean work environment + Assist in the training of people with disabilities as needed + Promote Peckham’s vision, values, and services with highest integrity and ethics to all customers and stakeholders + Assist in maintaining organization wide quality standards + Miscellaneous duties as assigned SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibilities. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS + Bachelor's degree (B. A.) required and 1-2 years of related experience + Or 3-5 years of related experience + Must have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy cultural diversity in the workplace + Must have understanding of public policy and applicable human resources laws + Ability to research and build resources through community partners and Peckham programs + Clear understanding of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel + Proficiency in, or ability to learn OnTime and Workday, or another HRIS system + Ability to maintain and keep strict confidentiality + This position requires passing and maintaining federal and state security background checks PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS + Degree or Professional Credential in a related field + Experience providing clinical support + Conflict Management skills and experience + Effective Communication and Writing skills + Mentoring and Coaching skills and experience + Problem Solving and quality focus + Stress Management abilities + CBI-EMP Instructor’s Credential PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities on a case-by-case basis.
