Summary Statement
Boise Parks and Recreation is seeking an enthusiastic and responsible individual to supervise youth in grades 6-12 as part of our afterschool recreation programs and activities at a city school-based community center. This role involves assisting staff and the program supervisor with the planning and execution of teen recreation activities while working independently with limited supervision.
Open to applicants aged 19 and older, this position is classified as At-Will and offers a rewarding opportunity to engage and inspire youth in a dynamic and supportive environment.
Essential Functions
Ensures the safety and well-being of all community center afterschool participants and staff.
Encourages and engages youths in a variety of indoor and outdoor group recreational activities such as basketball, tag, and tetherball.
Prepares materials and supplies for youth arts and crafts projects and assists participants when necessary.
Makes sure equipment and supplies are in good working order and notifies supervisor when items need repair or replacement.
Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time.
Requirements
Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Working knowledge of computer software such as Word and Excel as well as internet skills.
Ability to: interact with the public and co-workers in a friendly and professional manner; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of city employees, the general public and other organizations; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
One year of experience supervising youths and teens.
Current certification in First Aid/CPR.
Licensing And Other Requirements
Valid state-issued driver's license
Special Requirements
Applicants must be able to pass:
City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is always lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds and frequently lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds. Also, the employee is always pushing/pulling up to 35 pounds and frequently pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds. The noise level is always moderate. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, runn, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach and grasp. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.
Working Environment
The work environment will include inside conditions and outdoor weather conditions.
This position works: afternoons/evenings and some weekends
19-Hour Temporary
All temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits.
4-Month Temporary
All 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment.
8-Month Seasonal
In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage.
9-Month Temporary
In addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.
