Scope of Position:

The primary function of this position is to supervise both large and small groups of children in both Kroc Jr and Kroc Discovery. Attendants are responsible for maintaining the order, safety, and cleanliness of both childcare rooms. Attendants will follow policies and procedures of the center regarding personal conduct and security; are expected to interact continually with the children in their care while demonstrating a true interest in working and playing with the children.  

Attendants work with children aged 4 months to 13 years old and must have the ability and desire to work with children, parents, volunteers, and peers. Attendants supervise and lead activities for children in short-term care, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children while they are in our care.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Professional: The ability to work in a distinctively Christian environment. The ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. The ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances. They must also be able to work with limited supervision and in a team setting with other staff. Exercise good judgment and be comfortable taking initiative. 

Skills & Abilities: Effective verbal and written communications, ability to multitask. Must be able to read, write and communicate in English. Must have ability to work and relate well with people. Must have a positive attitude towards coworkers, caring for children, and working with the public.  Must be able to work in a fast-paced, busy environment and maintain poise under pressure.  This person must be attentive to detail, organized and able to maintain cleanliness of the short-term childcare rooms.  They must also be able to manage the activities and behaviors of multiple children at a time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide excellent internal and external customer service; see that all customers, clients, and members are given prompt and courteous service. Greet customers, answer questions, and assist as needed when working in FAE Programs. Follow all Child Safety policies and procedures in accordance with Kroc operations. Relate joyfully and sensitively to children of all ages and abilities. Sensitivity to children’s individual needs. Use appropriate positive discipline consistently. Practice vigilant supervision at all times. Organizes and participates in age appropriate intellectual and physical activities. Read to children. Teach simple painting, drawing, songs, and similar activities. In Kroc Jr. direct children towards the in-room restroom; contact parents when diapers need changing. In Kroc Discovery directs children to the bathroom down the hall accompanying them if they are under 10 years old. Help children develop habits of physical and hygienic care. Help children pick up and put away toys. Maintain appropriate behavior management. Handle security and crisis situations with a calm demeanor. Verify membership status through POS system. Maintain progressive knowledge of all programs and facilities. Be responsible for maintaining the order and cleanliness of the short-term childcare facilities when in use. Restock supplies and organize Kroc Jr and Kroc Discovery. Observe all safety rules and regulations. Make certain that short-term childcare facilities remain secure by taking appropriate precautions and reporting any security concerns. Will communicate any child, parent, or staff issues with the Youth Watch Lead/FAE Coordinator immediately. Complete required training. Attend staff meetings as assigned. Adhere to dress code at all times while maintaining a neat, professional appearance. Facilitate check in and out procedures according to room protocol, maintain accurate rosters/logs, and ensure proper identification of adult designated to pick up the child. Will interface respectfully with peers, supervisors, and customers of various socio-economic backgrounds. Handle disputes with participants, parents, staff, and children in a professional manner with guidance of the Youth Watch Lead/FAE Coordinator or appropriate Guest Relations Manager on duty. Enforce all rules that pertain to Kroc Jr, Kroc Discovery, and the facility on a consistent and fair basis. Practice safe work habits and contribute to the safety of self, co-workers, and the general public. Complete applicable reports and records and keep statistics of programming spaces. Ensure the safe and age-appropriate use of technology by children through monitoring and powering on consoles, TVs, and games, while providing guidance and assistance as needed, and maintaining equipment functionality and a positive environment. Ability to work effectively as a team player. Perform other related duties to the position. Assume a schedule of flexible working hours, including weekends and evenings.

Physical Requirements:

Must be well groomed and adhere to the required dress code. Must be able to perform tasks of a repetitive nature without diminishing performance. Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, squat, twist body, stand for short/long periods of time, kneel, push, pull, have sense of touch, reach, grasp with hands and fingers, lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds unassisted, climb stairs, close vision, distance vision, talk, hear, have-eye hand coordination, have manual dexterity, speak and read, and working in noisy areas, as these movements are a regular requirement of this position.

Working Conditions:

This position may have frequent phone and in person contact with people from diverse backgrounds who may be angry, hostile, confused, or frustrated. Work with minimum supervision and work involves a high degree of independence. May be required to make independent decisions that may involve unique or unusual situations and/or complex issues and dealing with demanding requests. Various scheduled work in the mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Will be exposed to a range of temperatures inside and outside of the building, heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, humidity. May walk or stand on varied surfaces.

Education and Work Experience:

Education – Preferred classwork in childhood development or related field. Work/Professional Experience – Have at least (1) one year of successful experience working with children. Other –Bilingual language skills desirable. Ability to pass a child safety background clearance.

License and Certifications:

CPR/First Aid/AED Certification Required or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire through the Kroc center.
