Are you a people person who wants to work directly with the people of Sarasota County? As the Zoning Plans Reviewer, you will review permit applications for compliance with the Sarasota County Zoning Ordinance and you will also be responsible for handling customer walk-ins in a continuing effort to provide quality customer service, in addition to reviewing permit plans for adherence to the Zoning Ordinance. Review building permit plans to ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State and County laws, ordinances, and regulations, to include determination of flood zones, zoning districts, coastal construction zones, gulf beach setback lines, property identification numbers and addresses. Provide excellent customer service and responds to information requests for customer walk-ins, telephone calls, and emails relating to interpretation of Zoning Ordinance related to zoning districts, permitted land uses, setback and development standards information.

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

About You

To thrive in this position, you must have-

A high school diploma or equivalent and 2-5 years experience in Zoning Plans review.  Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License.  College course work (equivalent to 30 semester credit hours or an Associate degree) in planning, engineering, or other related field experience may be substituted for the experience.  Knowledge of Federal, State and County Zoning laws, ordinances and regulations. Ability to interpret legal descriptions and prepare spreadsheets. Requires basic knowledge and/or skill in GIS.

About Everything Else

Starting Pay Range: $25.45 - $26.00 based on experience
